Ésta es una de las obras tempranas más bellas de Yannis Ritsos, compuesta en 1938 durante su convalecencia en el sanatorio de tuberculosos de Párnitha. Escrita con un lenguaje llano y claro, nutrido de fecundas imágenes oníricas que remiten a los paisajes, colores, sonidos, aromas y sensaciones de su infancia, el poeta da voz a su angustia personal a la vez que explora las promesas que la exuberancia de la naturaleza le anuncia, bebiendo del surrealismo para romper con la poesía tradicional griega: "Mañana cumple años el sol y el sol tiene nuestra edad [...] celebramos que cumplimos años el mismo día que el sol – todos los días".
